About TerraTech

Grameen Foundation for Social Impact (GFSI) has launched the “Scaling Agent Viability and Quality in India” project, a bold initiative to significantly enhance financial inclusion in underserved areas. Over three years, the project will focus on bolstering agent viability, diversifying product offerings, and expanding the Business Correspondent (BC) network by actively recruiting more women agents. The project will leverage cutting-edge technology and geospatial data to pinpoint geographic, demographic, and infrastructural gaps in underserved areas, utilizing a visual platform for interactive data analysis. This innovative data-driven decision tool, accessible to all BC industry stakeholders, fosters transparency and aids strategic planning for financial inclusion in underbanked regions.

A pivotal aspect of this initiative is the collaboration between GFSI & Protean to develop a GIS-based data visualization platform. To amplify awareness, a national-level hackathon called the “TerraTech challenge” is set to take center stage in the first quarter of 2024. Comprising zonal and national-level rounds, the hackathon will be conducted in collaboration with anchor institutes. This dynamic event is poised to bring together minds from diverse backgrounds, fueling creativity and innovation to address the challenges of financial inclusion. Through this hackathon, GFSI aims to push the boundaries of technological solutions and create a lasting impact on the landscape of financial services in India.

Eligibility

The participants should be willing to sign a legal undertaking that the team will not only develop the platform but will also manage it for the next two years.

The team can have any number of participants but only 3 members from every team will be allowed onsite during zonal rounds (other team members can join virtually).

The travel and the boarding for the team to be borne by the participants.

The proposed solution must be open source.

The link to the hackathon will be opened and every team should submit a three-pager concept note containing the following items:

Understanding the platform and the solution

The technical architecture (API integration will be the preferred mode)

Implementation
plan

Maintenance
plan

Budget

After evaluation of the concept note, teams will be selected for every zone and will be given access to the IT sandbox for 14 days. The team will work on one module at the zonal level.

ZONAL

Four zonal hackathons will be conducted at the zonal level
It will be a two-day event.
Online call for the concept of the solution
Every zone for the onsite with the teams with 3 zonal winners
East - IIT Kharagpur (11 - 12 January)
West - SP Jain Global (8 - 9 February)
North - IIM Lucknow (22 - 23 January)
South - IIIT-B (15 - 16 February)

How to Apply

Step 1 - Visit the site and select to sign up for the registration

Step 2 - Click on Sign up and fill in the details.

Step 3 - Verify the mail link

Step 4 - After Email verification, some basic details needs to be filled as below

Step 5 - Save and continue, it takes you to the academic details page

Step 6 - Below the academic details page, there is an option to upload the document, there are two options for document type to upload

Step 7 - Save and continue, it takes you to the courses available page, please select and apply for the programme “Terra Tech Hackathon”

Step 8 - On Clicking Apply now the following dialog box opens, please select relevant category and fees to apply as 0,

Step 9 - Please select next and fill in the desired information required as mentioned below, after that please confirm and you’ll be registered for the programme.

Step 10 - To check for the courses enrolled for your courses, select the tab “Your Account” in the top right corner, it gives you further options, click on the option of “Enrolled Programs”, which gives you the details of the programs enrolled by you, the two screenshots are as below,
